Learning from the Land & Sea: Teacher CPD

These workshops have been designed to help teachers build confidence in environmental and climate education.

Learning from the Land & Sea: Teacher CPD

This CPD has been designed to build confidence in supporting young people to connect with nature, learn more about our lands and seas (ecosystems/habitats, species ID) and tackle challenging conversations around climate change and action.

How it will work

The CPD will focus on three main ecosystems found across Morecambe Bay - coastal/estuarine, woodland/forest and river/bank side. Comprising a full day for each, these will be group sessions delivered by local professionals - a mix of discussion, practical activities and outdoor exploration.

There is no need to take part in all three days, just the one that links best to your schools location and/or interest. Funding is available to ‘buy in’ cover to allow teachers to take part.

Who's delivering?

Gemma Wren is an Ecologist who has worked in the Morecambe Bay area for over 15 years. She has worked in the nature conservation sector all her career: from starting out as a ranger to leading teams of rangers and latterly managing large scale conservation projects in the North of England. Previously working for the National Trust, Gemma managed several nature reserves and estates around the bay. Now she runs her own consultancy business as well as a small wildlife tours company which focuses on the wildlife and landscapes around the bay. She loves sharing her knowledge of the natural environment in this special place.

What do I need to prepare?

You will receive hand-outs and be sent any digital resources, so you just need to bring yourself (in warm outdoor clothing and with a packed lunch) and a willingness to discover your own connection to the nature. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day.
