BOOM botanical watercolour lesson- extra session
Join acclaimed local artist Sally Bamber for a morning of painting and flowers
The BOOM team has parntered with incredible artist Sally Bamber to run a botanical drawing lesson.
A morning with flowers and paint:
10am - we begin with timed sketches, a bit of madness and fun, how much can we put on the paper in a short space of time. A way of sharing with the group. We work with charcoal and possible a touch of colour on cartridge paper.
10.30am - a look at the styles that are produced by the enormous number of artists that produce watercolours of flowers.
10.40am - a brief walk around the gardens to look
at the flowers to see what is there, take into account the time of year, include the weeds! Focus on the particular plants in the project, (eg primrose being an important larval food plant for the Duke of Burgundy butterfly, kidney vetch for small blue etc)
11am - an introduction to masking fluid and watercolours, with a look at colour mixing and the colour wheel.
11.10 - Drawing the plant, hopefully from the real thing, depending on the time of year.
11.30 - Applying the masking fluid.
11.40 - A look at some of my flower books while the masking fluid dries. It can be good to have two works on the go at the same time, working on one while the other dries.
11.50 - working with watercolour painting the plant and flowers.
12.30 - Removing the masking fluid.
12.40 - Review of participants work and clearing up.
Please book one ticket per atendee. This session will outside, so please dress up accordingly!
