Community action for the Bay

We are working hard to involve the Bay's communities in all aspects of  this scheme, from a running events programme, encouraging volunteering, raising awareness and understanding of the Bay's rich heritage,  and recording and surveying the Bay's hidden and often forgotten maritime heritage, to recording memories and stories from our unique fishing communities.

Specific projects within the Scheme will stimulate engagement including

·         The cherished viewpoints project ‘Morecambe Bay in Widescreen’ which has the potential to foster greater appreciation amongst visitors and create new importance and interpretation.

·         Oral history projects which will draw local interest by revealing moving, startling and entertaining stories.

·         Maritime survey and recording and community archaeology projects which will engage the local community in exploring their past, and help to reconnect local communities with their maritime heritage.

This Scheme offers an enticing programme of activities to engage, study, participate, learn and enjoy. Together these will massively increase the number of people who are aware of the unique cultural and natural heritage of Morecambe Bay, and translate this awareness into active engagement in the restoration, enhancement, interpretation, celebration and sustainability of our distinctive landscape and unique heritage.
