700 Days to transform the Bay

700 days to transform the Bay - that's our ambitious aim!

The whole idea behind our work is to

  • Bring jobs to the Bay
  • Provide more, new and free training opportunities for businesses and communties around Morecambe Bay
  • Give an economic boost to the whole Bay area, particularly through developing the offer for visitors and helping local business to contribute to this

What are the projects?

  • Creating a Bay Cycle Way - a brand new, long-distance, family-friendly cycle route, developed with Sustrans. 200km of accessible cycleway, with loops and spurs leading to important heritage sites around the Bay. Due to be launched in June 2015
  • Brand new 'Welcome to Morecambe Bay' one-day training programme - this combines essential product knowledge of the beautiful Morecambe Bay area with the latest customer service skills and techniques. New dates announced thourghout the year - check our Events listings for latest training dates or find out more about this bespoke course here.
  • Sense of Place Toolkit - developed with our partners RSPB and Morecambe Bay Nature Improvement Area, this toolkit brings together some of the qualities and characteristics that make Morecambe Bay distinctive and unique. Businesses can use the ideas, information, quotes and photos in the toolkit and the Nature on your Doorstep Guides to help give visitors a richer experience when they visit the Morecambe Bay area for their holiday or break. We hope it'll encourage them to stay for more than a day and come back to visit another time.
  • Placemaking with local artists Art Gene - what's special about where you live? Help us build a real picture of what makes Morecambe Bay - stories, photos, heirlooms, treasures, history, nature, industry - Art Gene will use this information to create unique 'Seldom Seen' maps and apps. See Events listings for details of how you can get involved.
  • Recreational Disturbance Study to support the development of an improved visitor management strategy around Morecambe Bay and to maximise the potential for appropriate access to the coast and yet not damage or interfere with sensitive wildlife sites.
  • 2020Vision Street gallery - a stunning outdoor photography exhibition, with the key message 'Big ideas to rebuild our natural home'. This Roadshow was in Morecambe Bay for the whole Summer of 2014, landing in Morecambe, Barrow and Grange-over-Sands. Read more.

Morecambe Bay Partnership is delivering this suite of exiciting new projects between August 2013 and August 2015, with the help of funding from the Coastal Communities Fund and close partnership working with other partners from around the Bay.
