Funding Partners

 

The Trustees of the Partnership meet roughly six times a year to discuss and advise on funding, work programmes and future projects with the Partnership Staff.

June Ashworth has many years of public service as a Councillor in Morecambe.  She has a special interest in community development, tourism and has chaired the Tourism Committee of Lancaster City Council.

Vic Crumley works as a Planning Inspector.  He worked for many years in planning at Lancaster City Council, and was involved in the early stages of the Morecambe Bay Strategy's work.   

Alan Chester  retired (early) from United Utilities where he had responsibilities for wastewater treatment improvements.  He worked as Partnership Officer while Susannah was on maternity leave.  


Richard Greenwood
works as Development Director for Cumbria Tourist Board. He loves sport, music and exploring the Lune estuary with the family dog.  

Phil Hurst works in Heysham at British Energy.  With a background in radiological protection he has recently become involved with wider environmental and safety issues and now acts as Heysham 1 Environmental Co-ordinator.

Dennis Laird is Senior Project Manager for the Waterfront regeneration of Barrow Docks. He lives on Walney Island, is Chairman of Walney School governors, has been a member of Her Majesty's Coastguard with the Walney Island team since 1981, and has a keen professional and personal interest in matters maritime, natural, and historical.

Ged McAllister looks after the coast and sea defences at Lancaster City Council and has been responsible for engineering improvements along Morecambe promenade. He’s also provided the engineering touch to the Tern Project e.g. making sure the Eric statue stands up on one leg. 

Captain Graham Maclean is the Chair of the Morecambe Bay Partnership and the General Manager of Heysham Port.  

He tells colourful tales of his 30 years at sea on merchant vessels and has worked as Operations Manager for an Irish Sea ferry company.  He is a keen supporter of Morecambe football club and active in economic regeneration, including the Western Bypass debate.  

Margaret Martindale has 15 years of public service as a Councillor in Barrow.  She brings a wealth of knowledge of social and economic regeneration from her active involvement in many local issues and great enthusiasm to the Trustees.  

Geoff Paul has recently retired (early) from British Gas where he was HS&E Manager for the Morecambe gas fields.  Now working at living, he’s enjoying walking in the Bay environment and Lakeland fells.

Richard Scott grew up on Walney beach and graduated as a coastal ecologist with the Nature Conservancy.  He worked at the Institute of Terrestrial Ecology, Merlewood Research Station, latterly engaged in research on bio-fuels.   He now works in wind energy, cooperatives and sustainability, and coordinates the Furness Walking to Health scheme.

 

Partnership Staff

Susannah Bleakley  has worked as the Partnership Officer for a number of years.  
Donna Lowis is supporting us part-time as
Office Manager. 
The post of BeachCare Officer is currently vacant. 
The post of Education Officer is currently vacant. 

Honorary Staff

Alan Chester, a trustee, is the Honorary Treasurer. He regularly helps out in the office. 

Chris Rowley, formerly the Mermaid's Purse Education Officer, still supports the Partnership providing advise and leading the development of the Education work.
