What is PISCES?

PISCES  - the Partnership of Irish Sea Coast and Estuary Strategies  www.northwestcoast.org.uk/pisces.htm

PISCES is a grouping of coastal initiatives located on the coast of the North West Region.  It includes the Dee Estuary and Mersey Strategies; the Morecambe Bay, Solway Firth, Duddon and Ribble Estuary Partnerships; Sefton Coast Management Scheme; the Solway Rural Initiative, the Lake District National Park Coast and the Cumbria Marine Litter Project.  Visit the PISCES website at www.northwestcoast.org.uk/pisces.htm

PISCES aims and objectives

PISCES aims to raise awareness of the strategic importance of the North West coast, and build support for its sustainable use and integrated management.

PISCES works to achieve its aims with all agencies with an interest in the coast and the future of the North West Region.  Liaison has been formalised with the North West Coastal Group, and a Memorandum of Understanding has been agreed between PISCES and the Irish Sea Forum.

The objectives of PISCES are to
  • provide a platform to exchange ideas and share best practice among coastal practitioners in the North West;

  • promote support for the wise use and sustainable development of the NW coast;

  • raise the profile of the NW coast with key decision makers and organisations.

  • stimulate debate on strategic issues affecting the North West coast.
