Bridge Across the Bay Seminar - 29 June 2004

Proposed Morecambe Bay Bridge

300 people packed into the Victoria Hall to hear more about the proposed Morecambe Bay Bridge.  A report of the event is available from the Westmorland Gazette's web page.

QUESTIONS

During the question session a number of points of view were put forward and questions were asked about:

  • The appearance - how the bridge would look
  • The engineering feasibility - how deep is the sediments that the piles would have to be driven into
  • The economics - how much would it cost to build, how much power would be generated
  • The impact on Barrow-in-Furness - would it mean more people leaving Barrow or more people commuting from Barrow
  • The road links to the bridge and plans for the A590
