We
lead a very active programme of beach
cleans; our volunteers have removed over 20 tonnes of
litter, involving nearly 2,700 people - all the
events are on our
BeachCare web pages.
We hold regular
conferences and seminars to
provide a platform for informed debate on often controversial
issues - seeking to ensure constructive actions.
Our Sport
and Recreation User Group holds regular meetings to prevent
conflict, resolve issues, influence the detail of developments such as
offshore wind farms and Barrow marina and
ensure safe and responsible use of the bay.
...bringing people together
We provide the
secretariat to the European Marine Site
management group looking after the important habitats and
wildlife and birds of the Bay.
We are actively involved in regional initiatives
for the NW coast - including the work of PISCES, the
NW Coastal
Forum and the Regional Parks Exchange.
...working for a better environment
We are working on a
programme to secure new investment to improve the quality of the environment
and facilities for local people and visitors.
Locally we promote
the following campaigns: Bag it and
Bin It Don't Flush It (promoting
responsible disposal of sanitary waste); Don't Let Go (against mass balloon
releases); Plastic Bag Tax (to reduce unnecessary
plastic bag use)
Our
annual and progress reports review our recent
work.
There is lots of information about our activities on this
website.
The Morecambe Bay Strategy
Our work grew out of the Morecambe Bay Strategy.
This began in 1993 with
public meetings and questionnaires looking at issues.
During 1995, four working groups involving
over 120 people were established to recommend solutions to issues.
From their reports came the Morecambe Bay Strategy, published in
October 1996.
