Education

We have run our own education project, which produced the publication Thinking on the Edge.

We receive lots of enquiries from students.  To try to directs students to sources of information we've made a list below of some of the current "hot topics".  We are always pleased to receive a summary of the findings of completed projects, and wish any students studying Morecambe Bay success with their studies.

Information for students

We get lots of enquiries from A-level and undergraduate students each year, and we will do our best to help.  Our student pages have been designed to answer some of the most frequently asked questions, and to provide a "one-stop shop" with links to all of the information available on the Morecambe Bay Partnership website.  We have also included a number of ideas for research projects based on current issues in and around the Bay.

Saltmarshes & Spartina

Morecambe Bay contains over 5% of the UK area of saltmarsh.

Eroding Saltmarsh

We have a factsheet about the saltmarshes of Morecambe Bay.  The factsheet has been developed by Denys Vaughan, a local teacher, who shares his accumulated knowledge of many years through the production of this student  resource. The factsheet is aimed at A-level students and answers some of the most frequently asked questions.  It contains diagrams, ideas for study and a detailed reading list.  A range of subjects including geology, geography and flora are covered.

We also have a short paper about Spartina anglica written by Trevor Harwood, a local ecologist.

Spartina anglica (cord grass) has colonised the shore at Grange-over-Sands over the last few years.  A brief note about the current management of Spartina at Grange-over-Sands is available by clicking here.
