Who
are Morecambe Bay Partnership?
Morecambe
Bay Partnership is the only organisation dedicated
to taking action to improve the environment and
quality of life around Morecambe Bay.
-
We
lead a very active programme of volunteer beach
cleans which has removed over 17 tonnes of
litter from our local beaches and involved
nearly 2,500 people - details of all the beach
clean events are at our
BeachCare web pages.
-
Our
Sport
and Recreation User Group
holds regular meetings to prevent
conflict and resolve issues; to give users the
chance to get involved in the detail of plans
and developments that affect them such as
offshore wind farms and Barrow marina and to
ensure safe and responsible use of the bay so it
can be enjoyed into the future.
-
We work at a
regional level lobbying and taking action on
coastal issues.
-
Locally we promote
the following campaigns:
Bag it and
Bin It Don't Flush It (promoting
responsible disposal
of sanitary waste);
Don't Let Go (against mass balloon
releases);
Plastic Bag Tax (to reduce unnecessary
plastic bag use)
-
We are working on a
programme to secure new investment in the local
area to improve the quality of the environment
and facilities foir local people and visitors.
What
about transport, parking & trains?
Details
will be sent to all those who register nearer the
time. However, in general, we like to encourage
walkers to share cars and/or travel by train.
Ideally to park in Grange and take the train across to
Arnside. We will include more
detail in the letter to all those who register.

What
do I wear on my feet?
Expect
to get your feet and lower legs wet when you cross the
Kent Channel. How deep it is depends on how much
rain there has been in the last few days. (The
Kent is the fastest flowing river in England - rising
in Kentdale in the eastern Lake District and racing
down through Kendal to Morecambe Bay; it reacts very
fast to storms and dry periods).
Most
people wear shorts or loose trousers that can be
rolled up. Footwear will get wet, some people
prefer old trainers; some people take their shoes off
altogether on the sand; some people wear 'Teva'-style
sandals (robust velco-fastening type). We don't
encourage wellies.
It
can be a good idea to leave a bottle of water or
wet-wipes in your car to wash muddy feet.
Remember
sunscreen, a hat and a drink if it is hot and bright;
warm layers and a wind-proof if it is blowing.

Can
any who decide last minute register and pay on the
day?
We
prefer for everyone to book. Cedric Robinson who leads
the walks has limits on numbers. They are there
for safety reasons and to ensure things run smoothly.
By
registering, your place is secure, our administration
is simplified. And another very good reason for
registering is to contact people should there be some
unforeseen difficultly. If there has been recent
very heavy rain then the Guide will decide whether it
is safe to do the crossing. Sometimes the
channel can be a raging torrent after thunderstorms,
or persistent rain or mist may result in changing
the start point
and walking out from the Grange side and
then back.
We
hope we won't need to - but if there is a problem and
we need to contact you at the last minute, then we
like to be able to get in touch. Hence the
request for contact details including a mobile number.
