How do we register?

Complete this form or write to Morecambe Bay Partnership, 32 Market Place, Kendal, LA9 4TN including

  • your contact details,

  • the names of the people in your party (if possible),

  • email and address

  • telephone and mobile (we may need to contact you at short notice.)

How much is the registration cost?

We ask for a small donation to cover our organisation and administration costs. We hope this isn't too difficult for you.  We welcome a donation of £10 for each adult.

Please send cheques to Morecambe Bay Partnership, 32 Market Place, Kendal, LA9 4TN.  Cheques should be payable to Morecambe Bay Partnership.

What do I wear on my feet?

Expect to get your feet and lower legs wet when you cross the Leven Channel.  How deep it is depends on how much rain there has been in the last few days.  The Leven is the river that drains Windermere - rising in the central Lake District and racing down past Newby Bridge, BackBarrow and Haverthwaite to Morecambe Bay; it reacts fast to storms and dry periods.

Most people wear shorts or loose trousers that can be rolled up.  Footwear will get wet, we recommend crocs, robust sandals or old trainers; some people take their shoes off altogether on the sand.  We don't encourage wellies.

It can be a good idea to leave a bottle of water or wet-wipes in your car to wash muddy feet.  There can be areas of sticky mud, but most of the walk is firm sand.

Remember sunscreen, a hat and a drink if it is hot and bright; warm layers and a wind-proof if it is blowing.

Can we decide at the last minute, then register and pay on the day?

Yes, but we prefer for everyone to register and send donations in advance.  This is for safety reasons and to ensure things run smoothly.

By registering, your place is secure, our administration is simplified.  Also by registering we can contact people should there be some unforeseen difficultly.  If there has been recent very heavy rain then the Guide will decide whether it is safe to do the crossing.  Sometimes the channel can be a raging torrent after thunderstorms,  or persistent rain or mist may result in changes or cancellation.

We hope we won't need to - but if there is a problem and we need to contact you at the last minute, then we like to be able to get in touch.  Hence the request for contact details including a mobile number.  Or you can check the website in the morning of the walk after 9 am.
