Volunteer workparty: Bracken Clearance, Birkrigg Common

Join us to help clear bracken from important scheduled ancient monuments on Birkrigg Common, near Ulverston.

Help us clear bracken from Birkrigg Common, to help protect and conserve the important archaeological monuments that are hidden beneath (bracken clearance subject to bird survey results).

Working with Cumbria Wildlife Trust.

We meet at the Malt Kiln, Bardsea (http://www.themaltkiln.co.uk) at 9.30 for tea/coffee and registration. Full instructions, tools and all equipment will be provided. From the Malt Kiln working parties will go out to site to undertake targeted clearance work.

Minimum age 8 years old, but all children must be accompanied by an adult please as all work will involve using tools and can involve heavy lifting which may not be suitable for children.

Please bring a drink and wear suitable clothing for undertaking outdoor work- waterproofs, long-sleeved tops/trousrer are recommended to protect from ticks.

Note that work will involve manual removal of vegetation with slashers/rakes and some lifting. A degree of physical ability/fitness is required, although work is paced to accommodate all (where possible).

There will be further volunteer workparties throughout the season - please search for 'volunteer workparty' in our Events listings for details.

Please contact us if you are interested in joining us so that we can provide enough tools.
