Application submitted:
We submitted an application to the
Heritage Lottery in February 2011 for a Morecambe Bay Landscape Partnership Scheme.
The title
for this was
Headlands to Headspace (H2H).
Community Support:
Over 200 people
have been involved in the work to develop this Scheme.
Susannah Bleakley who co-ordinated the bid said: "The support from
the community has been fantastic. It is very heartening and
encouraging to have this level of commitment and energy from so many
individuals and groups pulling together and driving forward this
Scheme."
Consultation:
The Scheme was
first proposed at a seminar in the Laternhouse in Ulverston in March
2010. The proposal was outlined further to all our partners at
the Annual Conference
in May 2010 and three workshops were held then.
We held a
seminar/workshop in June 2010 at the Midland Hotel,
the
report is available here.
Update # 2
(December 2010) is
available online here
and outlines the project proposals.
Anyone who wishes to
learn more or discuss the proposal is encouraged to speak
with Susannah on 01539 735900, or
enter your contacts here
to register for updates.
and you can join the
H2H facebook group here (or search for Headlands to Headspace in
fb).
Timescales:
Lottery will
assess our submission alongside all the
others UK-wide.
We expect to hear
the outcome in late July or August 2011. If this is
successful, then development work would run in 2011 & 2012 with
a 5 year delivery phase starting around 2013.
If successful it could bring wide-ranging community and heritage
benefits around the Bay.

Significance
of Morecambe Bay:
Morecambe Bay is one of
the great, overlooked heritage sites in Britain - a place of
-
international
importance for wildlife, with outstanding diversity of habitats
and species
-
stunning
views, an inspiring land and seascape, constantly changing as
the sands shift with the tides
-
tremendous
cultural richness from prehistoric times to the present day,
including our famous cross-bay walks and a very special
traditions of fishing on foot rather than by boat.

Landscape
Partnership Schemes:
The
Heritage Lottery Fund Landscape
Partnership Scheme
encourages the development of a portfolio of sub-projects against
four themes. They require large scale collaboration, to
deliver a range of projects for lasting community and heritage benefit across important landscapes
that are recognised and valued by local communities.
